Google introduces Quick Share, an AirDrop-like feature for Pixel phones; Learn about its functionality
The AirDrop feature from Apple has gained popularity over the years for its convenient sharing of contacts, images, and files. In an attempt to offer a similar feature, Android smartphone companies like Google and Samsung have been working on their own solutions. Recently, Google introduced Quick Share, a file-sharing feature that simplifies the process of transferring files between Android devices. This collaborative effort between Samsung and Google has resulted in the Quick Share feature, which has already been implemented in Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series. Discover how this new wireless transfer feature for Android operates.
About the Quick Share feature
Apple and Samsung had their own wireless file transfer feature, while Google only had Nearby sharing. To make file sharing easier, Google has now partnered with Samsung to bring Quick Share to Pixel devices and later to other Android devices. As Tom’s Guide reports, the Quick Share feature is quite similar to Apple’s AirDrop feature, which allows for easy file transfers to nearby devices. Now Android users can also enjoy quick and easy file sharing with Quick Share.
How does the Google Quick Share feature work?
If you’re an Android user, you’ll be familiar with nearby sharing, and the functionality of the new Quick Share feature is pretty similar. Google will send you a notification the first time you use the feature: “Nearby Share is now Quick Share. Find a new name and icon to share with nearby devices.”

To share files, photos or videos using Quick Share, users just need to select the file and then tap the share icon at the bottom. Then find the Quick Share icon at the bottom of the screen and tap it. Now you can see multiple nearby devices, select the device you want to share the file to and the feature will start the sharing process. Note that the two devices must be close to each other for file sharing to be successful.
The Google Quick Share feature has started rolling out, so you can see the feature on your Pixel phones in no time. However, Android users may have to wait for an OS update to get the new file transfer feature. In addition, Google said that the Quick Share feature will also be available for Windows PCs.
