Instagram Tests Out New Functionality Allowing Users to Include Lyrics in Reels
Instagram developers have been occupied with multiple tasks recently. Alongside developing numerous functionalities for the Threads app, they are also introducing fresh features for Instagram. On August 11, they unveiled a new capability that enables users to tag a group of people in a story with just one mention, once the mention is created. This addition was made in response to users’ frustration with manually tagging individuals in group photos. Additionally, Instagram is now expanding the testing phase of an experimental feature that allows users to automatically add song lyrics to Reels, similar to how it functions in Stories, in order to assist creators on the platform.
Just a few hours ago, Instagram head Adam Mosseri posted on his Instagram feed: “Another music-related feature we’re testing: we mentioned earlier that we’re testing the ability to add lyrics to your reels – just like in Stories. We’re bringing this test to more countries now, and we’re excited to see how people are creating music with Reels. If you start seeing this feature, let us know what you think.”
A new Instagram feature allows users to add lyrics to their reels
The feature automatically extracts the lyrics from any song or sound added to the reel and displays the lyrics on the screen. Just like it does with stories, users can use editing tools to control its appearance, including text size and font, colors, layout, and more.
Currently, the feature is in testing phase and is not available to the general public. However, when it is expanded to more countries, a larger user base can use it. It’s not clear which countries will get this feature now, but a global rollout is expected to happen soon.
Reels was added to Instagram in 2020, and over the past three years, the social media platform has expanded this feature tremendously, adding creative tools, editing features, and the ability to allow users to collaborate. A month ago, Instagram even took the plunge and announced that users could upload reels.
Reels have become a really popular Instagram offering. Thanks to its popularity, even Facebook integrated it into its own video deck. The feature was originally added to rival TikTok and won over some users after it introduced the short video format to the world.
