AMC brings it’s on-demand streaming users to Vudu platform

AMC Entertainment’s streaming service is moving its users to Vudu. Today, the companies announced that Vudu is “AMC Theater on Demand’s new official consumer streaming platform.”

AMC launched its on-demand streaming service in 2019, and it has grown in popularity during pandemic-era shutdowns. In 2020, as moviegoers shunned theaters, the company partnered with Universal to allow the studio’s films to go to premium video-on-demand (PVOD) platforms — including AMC’s service — just 17 days after their theatrical release. However, as viewing habits have adapted over the past three years, AMC has now decided to transfer the service to a frequent partner.

Vudu says AMC Theater On Demand customers will automatically upgrade their content library to the “highest format available on Vudu, including 4K Ultra HD.” In addition, new Vudu accounts that migrate from AMC’s service will receive a 15 percent discount on every purchase they make during their first month on the platform.

Fandango Media, a subsidiary of NBCUniversal and Warner Bros. Discovery’s joint venture, currently Vudu. Walmart bought the platform in 2010 and used it for ten years before selling it to Fandango Media in 2020 for an undisclosed price. Its new owner then brought FandangoNow, a formerly independent streaming service, to the platform in 2021, keeping the resulting product’s Vudu name.

The companies did not disclose the commercial details of the delivery. “As we continue to grow our business and continue to focus on making movies better by improving the theater experience, we are even more excited to expand our relationship with a trusted partner that ensures a consistently great experience for the consumers who flock to the theater. movies,” said Nicole Denson-Randolph, AMC’s director of content strategy and programming. All in all: “Post-theater movies at home.”
