According to a report by market research firm Cultural Currents Institute, since 2004, searches by users questioning their sexuality and sexuality and searching for the phrases: “Am I gay,” “I am lesbian, “Am I Trans,” “How Do I Come Out” and “Non-binary “. The company stated that this data is according to Google Trends from 2004 to 2023.

In total, five search terms are considered: “Am I gay,” “Am I lesbian,” “Am I trans,” “How do I come out,” and “Non-binary.” And based on these, there has been an upward trend in the United States.

According to the report, Utah – a US state with “traditionally conservative social values” – leads in three of the five categories.

On the other hand, Oklahoma topped the “home to come out” category, indicating that the United States has a “challenging environment to identify with.”

The Institute for Cultural Currents states that “Google Trends data was collected for the search terms ‘Am I gay’, ‘Am I lesbian’, ‘Am I trans’, ‘How do I disclose’ and ‘Non-binary’ for the 50 US states and Canon from January 2004 to May 2023.”
