With Google Wallet, you can add cards by taking a photo

Don’t worry if your favorite store or gym doesn’t have a digital membership card, you’ll soon have the option to create one yourself. Google Wallet will soon add the option to save tickets in Wallet by taking a picture of the card. As long as the barcode or QR code exists, you can copy it to your Android phone for convenience and backup.

Google also responds by supporting Apple’s digital IDs. Starting today, Marylanders can add their driver’s license and ID card to Wallet on any device running Android 8 or later. Residents of Arizona, Colorado and Georgia will have a choice in the coming months. You can already use Maryland IDs for TSA PreCheck lines at some airports, but an update later this year will allow you to use digital IDs to check accounts online or reserve cars through Turo.

Health insurance cards are also coming to Wallet through Humana in the US and HMRC in the UK. Because these cards contain sensitive information, you must authenticate with a phone login (such as your fingerprint) each time you want to use them. Later this year, you’ll be able to add company badges to Wallet.

You can also receive passes via Google Messages when RCS is enabled. You can check in for a flight or train journey with a chatbot and get your Wallet card without leaving the application. This will initially be available to travelers through Spanish train operator Renfe and Vietnam Airlines, while foodies can book restaurants through platforms such as TagMe.
