Twitter may increase the character count of a tweet to 10,000: CEO Elon Musk said

Popular microblogging platform Twitter is likely to increase the character limit of a tweet to 10,000, allowing users to post very long tweets on the platform. This comes a month after Twitter announced that Blue subscribers in the US can send long tweets of up to 4,000 characters to the platform.

In response to a user query, Musk said the company will “soon” expand “long tweets” to 10,000 characters. One user wrote: “Genius @twitter and @elonmusk the decision to allow long form content on Twitter is great product design. Less clickbait type articles and people stay on Twitter longer.”

Musk replied: “Adding long form to 10,000 characters soon, along with simple formatting tools. And it’s a lot easier for authors to charge subscription fees for premium content.” It was the second time in its 16-year history that Twitter increased the token count

For now, only Blue subscribers can send longer tweets, but non-subscribers can read, reply, retweet, and quote tweets to them. Previously, tweets were limited to only 280 characters, which still applies to non-subscribers.

Meanwhile, Twitter is reportedly testing a new verification process for its Blue subscribers, which involves sending official ID.

TechCrunch reports how to authenticate its Twitter account by sending a picture of users’ ID, both front and back, combined with a selfie.

However, it is still unclear whether the feature will be tested externally. According to the company, the feature is being tested in the United States, where it was found in the Android version of the Twitter application.

Adding a photo ID and selfie requirement to Blue’s verification process would help combat impersonation.

Last month, after Twitter Blue launched a verification service in India priced at Rs 650 per month, CEO Elon Musk reiterated that all old Blue badges will be removed soon.
