Google plans to reopen some offices in the United States in the next month
Google has said it will allow employees to return to certain U.S. offices within the next month, a sign that the tech industry is trying to return to the workplace after more than a year of working remotely during the pandemic. Covid-19.
Employees can choose to visit the offices of the Alphabet Inc. unit until September, Fionna Cicconi, senior vice president and chief human resources officer at Google, wrote on Wednesday in a memo to staff.
Offices will begin to open in limited capacity based on specific criteria that include increasing vaccine availability and declining trends in Covid-19 cases, Cicconi wrote. “We recommend that you get vaccinated, although it will not be mandatory to have one so that the Googlers can return to the office.”
Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai told employees in December that the company will pilot a hybrid model in which teams meet for “collaboration days” at the office and the other days work from home or office. . As part of the plan, which will not be available to all employees due to their role, employees must be in the office at least three days per week.
Cicconi said Google’s offices wouldn’t look what employees remember, but the company will continue to provide meals, snacks and amenities where possible. If an employee works in a country other than where they are employed, they have until September 1 to return to the United States.
