Kerala Traffic Violations Decrease Following AI Camera Installation – Transport Minister
According to Kerala Transport Minister Antony Raju, the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) cameras has resulted in a decrease in traffic violations in the southern state.
Inaugurating a leadership camp for National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, he said the state reported about 4.5 lakh traffic violations every month, which reduced to 2.5 lakh after installation of AI cameras.
According to the minister, Kerala was able to prove that AI cameras were actually beneficial to the society as it was able to save many lives.
“Before the installation of AI cameras, around 4.5 million traffic violations were reported in the state every month. With the installation of the cameras in June, this has come down to 2.5 million. The number of road accidents has also come down,” Raju said.
The minister also said that the number of people seeking treatment due to traffic accidents has decreased.
“AI cameras have reported law violations from VIPs to commoners, which shows that everyone is equal before the law. The state has been able to prove that AI cameras were beneficial to society,” he said.
A group of traffic officials from various states, including neighboring Tamil Nadu, had recently visited Kerala to study the artificial intelligence camera system, the installation of which has helped reduce traffic violations and fatal accidents on the southern state’s roads.
Addressing the volunteers, Raju said that road safety regulations will soon be included in the curriculum of school children.
AI cameras were installed to monitor traffic violations on the state’s roads under the Safe Kerala project.
According to government data, the number of road traffic deaths in July this year was 67, which is a sharp decrease from 313 in the same month last year.
