Google Introduces Chromebook Plus with Enhanced Performance and AI Features
Google introduced the initial Chromebooks in 2011, which were laptops designed for web-based tasks using the Google Chrome browser. These laptops provided faster performance compared to traditional computers. Over the years, Chromebooks have evolved while maintaining their key features of quick boot and app load times, along with user-friendly functionality. Recently, Google has launched the Chromebook Plus certification program, which identifies laptops that offer enhanced performance and incorporate the artificial intelligence capabilities of Google apps. This program marks a significant milestone in the development of Chromebooks, more than ten years after their introduction.
Announcing the Google Chromebook Plus, the company said in a blog post: “With double the performance, Chromebook Plus offers built-in Google apps and powerful AI features. It also offers Google Photos Magic Eraser and Adobe Photoshop online to help consumers improve productivity, inspire creativity and make everyday tasks intuitive. It is a laptop that optimizes hardware performance with software applications and tools, all for a starting price of $399.
It should be noted that the Google Chromebook Plus is not a hardware product of the company, but a certification program that ensures the basic hardware requirement to enable the deployment of advanced ChromeOS software. Laptop manufacturers strive to build Chromebooks that meet these minimum requirements in order to use the Chromebook Plus label.
Google releases Chromebook Plus
Buying laptops can be confusing as it comes with a long list of specifications and details. This can result in consumers not getting the desired performance when purchasing a Chromebook in the market. Google emphasizes that the Chromebook Plus certification will be useful to make it easier for buyers to purchase a Chromebook without compromising on quality.
Each Chromebook Plus laptop has the following hardware specifications:
- CPU: Intel Core i3 12th Gen or later or AMD Ryzen 3 7000 series or later
- RAM: 8GB+
- Storage: 128GB+
- Webcam: 1080p+ with temporary noise reduction
- Screen: Full HD IPS or better screen
The company also highlighted that Google’s partners in Acer, Asus, HP and Lenovo are developing eight new Chromebooks “to build a guaranteed level of performance that people can trust.”
