Tech Companies Agree to Combat AI-Generated Child Sexual Exploitation Images

A collective statement has been signed by tech companies such as TikTok, Snapchat, and Stability AI, vowing to collaborate in combating the production of child sexual abuse images through the use of artificial intelligence.

Britain announced the joint statement – which also listed the governments of the US, Germany and Australia among its 27 signatories – at an event on Monday ahead of a global summit on AI security hosted by the UK this week.

“We resolve to maintain dialogue and technological innovation to combat child sexual abuse in the age of artificial intelligence,” the statement reads.

“We resolve to work together to ensure that we use AI responsibly to combat the threat of child sexual abuse, and we commit to continuing to work together to ensure that the risks posed by AI in combating child sexual abuse do not become insurmountable.”

Britannia cited data from the Internet Watch Foundation showing that on one dark web forum, users had shared nearly 3,000 images of AI-generated child sexual abuse material.

“It is now important that we lead by example and stop the abuse of this emerging technology before it takes root,” said IWF CEO Susie Hargreaves.
