Satya Nadella’s Response to Being Named Microsoft’s New CEO
Satya Nadella, CEO of US tech giant Microsoft, recently spoke about how he felt when he found out he was the new CEO in 2014. He said this in an interview at Axel Springer’s Berlin headquarters after receiving the award. He also discussed his professional journey, leadership and Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI, Times of India reported.
“I grew up at Microsoft first under Bill (Gates) and then under Steve (Ballmer), I don’t think I ever got up in the morning and thought that one day Microsoft would not have Bill or Steve. . And frankly, when Steve announced he was leaving, it was a real shock to me,” Nadella said.
Nadella recounted the moment when a board member asked if he wanted to be CEO, to which he replied, “Only if you want me to be CEO.” She shared this conversation with Steve and shared her insecurities about the role, but Steve advised her to stay true to herself and see how things go. He remarked, “It’s too late to change, so just be yourself and see what happens.”
Nadella is only the third person to lead Microsoft since the company was founded in 1975, after co-founders Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has started rolling out the next major update to its Windows 11 PC operating system with some new features. The most important change in the new update (known as Windows 11, version 23H2) includes changing the name of Microsoft Teams to Chat.
The Windows 11 2023 update also brings some improvements to application management. System components in Windows 11 are now labeled “system” and are separated into the new settings.
The Microsoft Store, Game Bar, Phone Link, and Tips apps are all included, and it looks like Microsoft is preparing to let Windows 11 customers uninstall these system components at some point.
