Unlock the Mystery of Apple’s 6G: When Will It Launch?

Apple has been striving to create its own solutions for its range of products for many years. One of its most notable creations has been the lightning port, a unique charging solution for its iPhone, iPad, and other devices. However, not all of their endeavors have been successful, as their FireWire technology was abandoned before gaining traction. Nevertheless, Apple remains committed to innovation. Their Apple Silicon chipsets are highly regarded for their exceptional battery life and performance. Additionally, Apple has been working on developing its own 5G modem for iPhones, aiming to reduce its reliance on Qualcomm, with whom it has had ongoing disputes. However, these plans are now uncertain. On a positive note, Apple’s development of 6G technology appears to be progressing well, as indicated by recent findings. Learn more about Apple’s plans for 6G.

Apple’s 6G plans

In the latest issue of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman highlighted an Apple job listing on his website that may have just revealed the company’s 6G plans. The listing is for a Cellular Platform Architect responsible for leading and coordinating the design of the 6G reference architecture.

The full listing says: “As a Cellular Platform Architect, you will direct and coordinate the design and modeling of the 6G reference architecture. An appropriate set of prototype implementations and reference architecture models must be developed to enable the evaluation of technology candidates and use cases. In this role, you will plan, direct and actively participate in these modeling and prototyping activities. You will collaborate cross-functionally with research and development teams when proposing, designing and implementing simulations and experiments to evaluate 6G technology candidates!

While this listing is relatively new, it’s not the first time Apple has sought to hire people to develop its 6G infrastructure. In 2021, the tech giant posted a list of wireless systems research engineer positions to work on 5G and 6G in San Diego and Silicon Valley.

But that doesn’t mean Apple’s 6G technology will arrive anytime soon. According to Gurman, there is no information on the speeds of the 6G network compared to the 5G network, and it is not expected to arrive until at least 2030. However, this gives Apple plenty of time to restart development of its 5G modem. For iPhones and other devices if it chooses to do so.
