Survey reveals that most people in India are confident that AI will enhance their productivity

According to a survey conducted by PwC, a larger proportion of Indian participants are of the opinion that AI will enhance their work productivity, compared to the global average of 31%. However, this is contingent upon their organizations offering them opportunities for upskilling.

India can become a pioneer in incorporating AI technology into business if the sector moves forward with proper upskilling, said a PwC report titled ‘India Workforce Hopes and Fears Survey 2023’.

2,502 participants in India responded to the survey, 88 percent of whom were full-time employees.

“Amidst the increasing uncertainty and seismic impact of AI, the workforce is demanding more from employers across the board. The workforce is not just settling for competitive pay – which is still hygiene – but also deeper job satisfaction and faster growth opportunities to fulfill their aspirations,” said Anumeha Singh, Partner, PwC India.

To succeed, organizations and leaders must make tough choices and combine adaptability with innovative workforce structures and career paths in an ever-evolving landscape, Singh added.

The survey further showed that 62 percent of Indian workers believe that the skills required for their jobs will change significantly in the next five years. As many as 69 percent of them are also aware of the change in these requirements.

Additionally, 24 percent of Indian respondents said AI would negatively affect the nature of their work, which is 10 percent higher than the global average.

Additionally, 21 percent of Indian respondents believe AI will take their jobs, compared to 13 percent globally.

“The most common opinion expressed by 51 percent of respondents is that AI will help them increase their productivity or efficiency at work, compared to 31 percent of global respondents,” the survey found.
