Access to Purchased Content on Google Play Movies and TV Will Remain Available Despite Shutdown in January
It looks like Google is saying goodbye to the Google Play Movies & TV app. The company has already started removing the app from various platforms and has already moved Android and iOS users to the Google TV app. The app will also be removed from platforms such as Roku and smart TVs.
For the uninitiated, Google decided to make Android TV the default in 2022, where you can rent, watch and buy movies and TV shows. And now, in a new blog post, Google says that the days of Google Play Movies and TV are over and that it’s removing the app from Google Play and TV devices. But that doesn’t mean you’ll lose access to content you may have purchased while the service was active.
How do you access the content you purchased?
The search giant has listed a clear way to access the content you purchased. If you use Android TV or streaming devices with Android TV, you can access your purchases in the My Library row of the Store tab.
And if you’re just using a web browser, or if you’re using a set-top box with Android TV, you can access your purchased content on YouTube.
However, this is Google’s way of tying together its entertainment apps, and it will likely make things simpler and easier to understand in the long run. Apple has also made its TV app in such a way that you can use Apple TV Plus and rent and buy TV shows and movies at the same time.
