So what is this magic app that can perform all these tasks from a smartwatch as well? The name of the application is Doublepoint, which is from a Finnish startup. At CES 2024 in Las Vegas this week, the company has unveiled its technology that runs on WearOS smartwatches, which stands for Android-based wearables.
The app gets Bluetooth connectivity to connect to various devices in the space. Once connected, nifty features like tapping your fingers or rotating your wrist can trigger a command to execute. That’s not all, it can also use eye tracking to give you a virtual cursor that can move things around on the screen. Many reports referring to the demo of the app seem impressed with its performance, but when the app will be released to the public is another matter.
Doublepoint is ready to ship the app to developers sometime this year, and they plan to add new use cases to the technology then. But the company’s biggest update is that the app may actually become part of Qualcomm’s custom wearable chipsets, which could expand its availability at different price points.
Android has struggled to catch up with the Apple Watch in the market for years, but this nifty feature could at least give people something to think about when they decide to buy a smartwatch in the next few years.
