Subscribers Not Interested in Apple’s Vision Pro, Says Netflix CEO
Apple Vision Pro is available for pre-order and will be available starting February 2nd in the US. It’s safe to say that the mixed reality headset has performed reasonably well, with analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claiming that Apple has already sold around 1.8 lakh units of the same.
However, it seems that this number, niche and general target market may not be enough for Netflix to take Vision Pro seriously and give it its own app. Yes, the Vision Pro won’t have an official Netflix app at launch, and if the company’s CEO is to be believed, there’s no sign the streaming giant will bring one anytime soon, and users may have to resort to using a web browser. look at it.
Netflix CEO Greg Peters, who stated the same in an interview with Stratechery’s Daily Update podcast, claimed that the company decided not to release its own app “not out of reluctance or lack of desire,” but rather because the company believes the $3,499 headset is not just its worth to many at the moment.
“We have to be careful to make sure we’re not investing in places that aren’t really generating returns,” Peters said. “I’d say we’ll see where things go with Vision Pro,” he added.
He believes that having a dedicated app for Vision Pro does not benefit the experience in itself. “Of course, we’re in constant discussions with Apple to try and figure it out, but at the moment the device is so low on the scale that it’s not particularly important to most of our members,” the man added.
It is possible that the headset could change the perception of Netflix after some time since it works with Apple. “Netflix and Apple have worked together for a long time, we’ve always had active conversations about how we could help each other. Sometimes we find a lot of overlap. We can move very, very quickly. Sometimes it takes a little longer,” Peters said.
