Apple to Make Adjustments to iPhone Autocorrect Feature at WWDC 2023
At Apple’s developer event on Monday, a significant development is the company’s modification to its autocorrect function, which will prevent it from mistakenly changing a frequently used expletive to “ducking.”
“For those moments when you just want to type a bad word, the keyboard will learn it,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s director of software.
The iPhone’s keyboard autocorrect has always had its quirks, sometimes a misspelled word while sending a text and it replaces what it considers to be a logical choice that changes the meaning of a particular phrase or sentence.
Events like this usually lead to follow-up texts of “damn autocorrect!” But replacing “blackmail” has long been a source of amusement or frustration, depending on how many times one has had to retype one’s own texts or yell at the device (the iPhone can’t correct verbal adjectives).
In addition to tweaking text messages, the company had a lot on the agenda – expensive new mix reality headsets and details on a desktop and laptop overhaul.
Apple shares hit an all-time high on Monday, pushing the company’s market value below $3 trillion, also a record. Its 280 percent gain over the past five years clearly shows the strength of the iPhone’s market share.
Of course, iPhone users have always had the option to turn off the autocorrect feature on their phones, giving its bad users the chance to be as vulgar as they want.
