Threads App for iOS Receives Major Update – Explore the New Features Now Available for iPhones
Yesterday, July 18, the Threads app, powered by Instagram, received a significant update for iOS just two weeks after its initial release. This update follows Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s recent sharing of his plans for the platform and its future direction. The update primarily addresses some essential features that were absent during the app’s launch. Notably, a new tab has been introduced, allowing users to view their followers and the accounts they follow. Now, let’s explore all the fresh additions that Threads brings to iPhones.
Threads is getting its first major update
This update is specific to iOS and no corresponding Android update has been announced. However, it is likely that an Android update will arrive soon as well. Yesterday, Zuckerberg said: “The focus for the rest of the year is on improving and maintaining the fundamentals. It will take time to stabilize, but once we do, we will focus on growing the community.
And most of the features are the same. At launch, we noticed that the app was missing some important features, such as a separate tab to see followers, a page to explore trending topics, and more. Threads has been working on some of these issues.
Cameron Roth, software engineer at Instagram, posted on Threads and said, “New @threadsapp iOS update released today! Check out what we’ve been hard at cooking.”
The biggest addition is the new follow tab in the activity feed, which allows you to check both your followers and the ones you’re following. In addition to that, translations have also been added, and just like Instagram, you can get a translation for messages and replies that are in a different language.
There’s also the option to subscribe to unfollowed users, as well as clickable reposters tags that can be used to see everyone who’s reposted a particular thread. A separate reply page has also been created for the threads, so that the discussions can be followed better.
In addition to these improvements, several features have been added, such as scrolling the activity feed, uploading new posts, checking your Instagram follower list in Threads, and bug and crash fixes.
If you’re using an iPhone and haven’t seen these new features even after the update, don’t worry. Roth explained: “You may need to restart your app to see some of these, or else wait until the end of the day! We use a system of server-supplied tickets, which may take a while to fully release.”
While these updates fix several issues, it remains to be seen if Threads will get its own research and search page soon.
