Apple iPhone 15 Series Launch May Be Delayed Beyond September 2021

Apple, the tech giant headquartered in Cupertino, is renowned for unveiling new iPhone models typically in September each year. However, there is a possibility of a delay in the launch of the iPhone 15 series in 2023. A recent report suggests that instead of September, the iPhone 15 series smartphones might be released in October.

Bank of America global securities analyst Wamsi Mohan suggested that Apple’s iPhone 15 devices may be delayed by “a few weeks,” but he did not give a reason for the delay.

According to reports, the delay in the release of the iPhone 15 series may affect Apple’s sales in the September quarter. In addition, limited availability of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to be released in September due to display manufacturing issues.

The bezels on the iPhone 15 Pro and ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ Max are thinner than the iPhone 14 Pro models, and it’s this reduction in bezel size that causes problems, MacRumors reports. According to The Information, Apple’s suppliers are using a new display manufacturing process to shrink the frame size, and it’s causing problems with displays made by LG Display.

Apple had a similar problem with the Apple Watch Series 7 screen size increase in 2019, and the device was delayed by about a month. LG screens do not pass reliability tests during the process where the screen is fused to the metal shell. Apple tweaks the design of the LG display to pass the tests, and still has Samsung displays it can use for assembly.

Contrary to the Bank of America report, The Information said that Apple will not delay the release of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, fewer units are available in the initial phase, leading to possible shortages. The manufacturing issue primarily affects the iPhone 15 Pro Max, making it the most challenging device at launch.
