The UK is hosting an AI summit
The UK government announced today that it will host an AI summit on AI security in early November, according to a report in the Financial Times. The summit also invites “like-minded” countries to participate in the event. It addresses potential global threats to democracy, such as artificial intelligence in warfare and cyber security. Along with political dignitaries and academics, big companies involved in artificial intelligence, such as Google’s DeepMind, Microsoft, OpenAI and others, are also invited to the summit.
Tencent will release its AI model in 2023
According to a report from Nikkei Asia, Chinese tech conglomerate Tencent Holdings has revealed that it will deploy its own generative AI base model later this year. This announcement came after the company posted lower-than-expected quarterly revenue growth.
Tencent President Martin Lau called the move a revenue multiplier as a way to get more revenue streams: “We’re looking at the opportunity and the technology much more broadly than just a chatbot….We’re relentlessly working on an update and iteration to get ready for release at some point later this year.”
US FDA clears AI algorithms for complex arrhythmias
CathVision, a technology company working on ablation therapy for cardiac arrhythmias, has received US FDA approval for two artificial intelligence algorithms to help assess the success of PVI ablation in complex arrhythmias.
The company has a suite of AI algorithms called Cardialytics integrated into its AI system to help improve ablation outcomes in complex atrial arrhythmia procedures by measuring cardiac ablation success, according to a company press release.
South Korea’s president calls for setting global artificial intelligence standards
South Korean President Yoon Suk-Yeol said in an interview with Bloomberg that South Korea, Japan and the United States will “work together to set global standards” in artificial intelligence, quantum space and other key areas of scientific development. This came ahead of a joint summit between the three countries in the US later this week.
“As a responsible member of the international community, the Republic of Korea also actively participates in global discussions on export control in order to maintain world peace and security. We intend to continue to consult closely with major countries on the operation of export control systems,” he told Bloomberg.
