Universal Music and YouTube Launch Music AI Incubator Program
According to a blogpost on Monday, YouTube is introducing an incubator program aimed at collaborating with artists and musicians to investigate the application of artificial intelligence in the field of music.
The Alphabet unit has acquired Universal Music as its first partner in the incubator and works with artists such as Anitta, ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus and Max Ricther.
“The Incubator helps shape YouTube’s approach as we partner with some of music’s most innovative artists, songwriters and producers across the industry,” YouTube CEO Neal Mohan said in a blog post.
The group will “help gather insights into the generative AI experiments and research being developed on YouTube,” Mohan said, adding that YouTube is bringing on board more partners.
Generative artificial intelligence is artificial intelligence that can produce text, images, sounds and other data.
Since the launch of ChatGPT late last year, the technology has been adopted in a variety of industries and use cases, even as lawmakers are considering rules to prevent its misuse, including copyright infringement and spam.
YouTube said it will continue to invest in AI-based technology, including the development of its copyright management tool, Content ID, to protect viewers and content creators.
