Android Users Get New Alert for Unidentified Trackers from Google
The fear of trackers sneaking into your bag is a big privacy concern, and Google is finally offering a solution to the problem. Android phones are now capable of alerting users if they have any kind of tracking device in their purse, pocket, or anywhere nearby. The feature itself is called Unknown Tracking Alert, but it looks like only Apple AirTags are the only non-Android tracking device that the tool can detect so far.
Google says the feature will work on all phones running Android 6.0 or higher, covering most Android devices available in the market in recent years. The warning feature can be enabled through Google Play Services, which comes from Google, and most likely they will release an update to enable the new feature. The company has mentioned that the tracking alert uses three modes of protection, which are notification, operation and scanning.
Google’s Unknown Tracker Alert – How It Protects You From Stalkers
When the feature is enabled on your Android phone, you will be notified of an unknown Bluetooth tracker that has been tagged to you. The notification comes with an alert button that gives you information about the location of this tracker and silently takes you to the device without the owner knowing about its location change.
But that’s not all, Google also gives you information about the tracker, which includes the device’s serial number and even the last four digits of the person who owns the unknown tracker.
The company also lets Android users search for similar unknown trackers nearby and also guides them through the next step to either disable the tracker or try to block the stalker.
The feature is compatible with AirTag, so if an iPhone user has put the tracker in their bag, the unknown tracking alert will mark the device in red and help you track the activities of the entire situation. It is likely that other trackers will also be compatible with the alert tool in the coming months, making it very useful for Android users around the world.
