Apple could ditch Face ID in iPhone 13
Apple’s iPhone 13 has been in the news for quite some time. Reports from the past have detailed the features we can expect to see in next-gen iPhones. Now, a new report suggests that Apple plans to ditch Face ID in its next iPhones.
Apple introduced Face ID with the launch of the iPhone X in 2017. Now, a report from GizChina suggests that Apple is considering ditching Face ID in its 2021 iPhones and opting for built-in fingerprint sensors.
The report says the iPhone 13 will be the company’s first full-screen phone. It will sport a full screen display without a notch. The report citing a tipster named MauriQHD said the iPhone 13 will feature a notch-free design and have the same bezel thickness on all four sides. It is also expected to sport an under-display fingerprint recognition feature that uses Qualcomm’s latest ultra-thin fingerprint recognition sensor that was introduced at CES 2021.
On top of that, the iPhone 13 will likely be equipped with Samsung’s LTPO displays which will ditch the traditional 60Hz to move to faster and better 120Hz displays.
Meanwhile, a separate Bloomberg report last month hinted at the iPhone 13 series supporting both Face ID and the Touch ID biometric authentication system. This was corroborated by a report from the WSJ later in January. Apple typically launches its iPhones in September, which means it’s seven to eight months before the iPhone 13’s launch. And so, it’s too early to tell whether this information is true or not. All we can do for now is wait for more reports to shed some light on the matter.
