Apple & Disney Take a Break From X – Elon Musk’s Social Media Platform
Major tech brands including Apple, Disney and IBM have suspended all advertising on social network X, formerly known as Twitter, according to media reports.
Apple and other major advertisers are reportedly suspending their ads on X after Elon Musk endorsed anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.
Disney, Warner Bros, Discovery, Paramount, Comcast/NBCUniversal, Lionsgate and the European Commission have also reportedly stopped advertising on X “due to the spread of widespread disinformation”, IANS reported.
IBM also announced this week that it is withdrawing its ads, and the European Union has decided not to advertise on the social network.
According to MacRumors, the White House previously criticized Musk’s comments, and X employees reported receiving calls from other companies expressing displeasure with Musk.
The non-profit organization Media Matters drew attention to the issue, noting that while Musk is diving into white nationalist and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, his social media platform has been running ads for major brands including Apple, Bravo (NBCUniversal), IBM, Oracle, and Xfinity (Comcast) and Adolf Content supporting Hitler and his Nazi Party.
“X has also reinstated numerous accounts of bigots and paid extremists, including apparently Hitler and Holocaust deniers, as part of its creator’s ad revenue sharing program,” Media Matters said in its report.
During all of this Musk-induced chaos, corporate ads have also appeared on Hitler, Holocaust denial, white nationalist, pro-violence and neo-Nazi accounts, the report added.
Elon Musk posted on Saturday at X: “Media Matters is pure evil.”
X CEO Linda Yaccarino said their position has consistently been firm against discrimination of anyone. He stated: “On this forum, X has been unequivocal in our efforts to fight anti-Semitism and discrimination. It has no place anywhere in the world – it’s ugly and wrong. Full stop.”
