Apple is ending “My Photo Stream” in July and says users will have to switch to iCloud Photos
Apple announced the end of the “My Photo Stream” service on July 26, 2023 – and onward – users are encouraged to switch to iCloud Photos on all their Apple devices to securely store photos in iCloud.
Introduced with iCloud in 2011, My Photo Stream offered a free solution for syncing up to 1,000 photos from the past 30 days across Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
As part of the transition, Apple reports that uploading new photos to My Photo Stream from users’ devices will stop one month before the June 26, 2023 deadline.
All photos uploaded to the service prior to this date will remain in iCloud for 30 days from the date of upload and will be available on all your devices that currently have My Photo Stream enabled. By July 26, 2023, there will be no more photos in iCloud, and the service will be discontinued.
Users should be aware that My Photo Stream photos are already stored on “at least one of your devices”. So, if the original photos are on the device, users will not lose their photos. However, it is recommended that you save any photos that are not stored in your library (for example, on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac) to avoid losing them.
Going forward, users will have to rely on iCloud Photos to store and sync photos between their Apple devices. It’s important to note that once you exceed the free 5GB storage, additional storage requires a paid subscription.
