Apple May Be Developing HomePod With Touchscreen Feature
So far, Apple’s HomePod lineup has only seen a few updates since its initial launch in 2017. We’ve seen the HomePod mini and more recently the second-generation HomePod. The lineup in particular hasn’t seen a major overhaul, but now it looks like Apple’s HomePod lineup may be in for a major overhaul.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, Apple may be working on several HomePod prototypes, and one of them could feature a touchscreen LCD panel on the speaker. The publication notes that the leaked images of the alleged HomePod with an LCD screen are legitimate and are of a prototype.
iFuck thought had never made a HP with touchScreen before, but it is happened, it used to be my AprilFool’s joke pic.twitter.com/FUvS4HcYj7— Kosutami (@KosutamiSan) October 21, 2023
Images leaked by an account called Kosutami show a HomePod prototype with a large LCD touchscreen on top of the device, with a significantly larger surface area compared to the outgoing second-generation model. In addition, the leaker points out that the design of the said HomePod is more similar to the second generation than the first HomePod.
After checking with sources, 9to5Mac states that the HomePod is real and is codenamed B720. “Apple is actively working on this prototype, which confirms that we are talking about a new product and not something the company has tried before,” the publication said.
It’s not exactly clear when or if Apple will release the HomePod, but it’s said to be an “advanced stage” prototype, which could potentially make Apple release it in the near future.
As for the user interface, very little is clear, but according to the report, it may feature a fuzzy animation based on the album artwork or song. In addition, it can also allow users to respond to messages and calls.
