Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Air likely to launch in April: what to expect
US-headquartered tech giant Apple is likely planning to launch the 15.5-inch MacBook Air in April 2023. According to Apple analyst Ross Young, Apple’s supply chain started producing display panels for the new 15.5-inch MacBook Air this month.
Taking to microblogging site Twitter, Young said that the new MacBook Air will be released in “early April” as display production is now underway, but it is possible that the announcement and pre-orders will happen earlier. Apple often has a spring event to announce new products, such as in March 2022 and April 2021, MacRumors reports.
The report mentioned that the new 15-inch screen size option would be the largest ever for the MacBook Air and would presumably be offered alongside the current 13-inch model. The current 13-inch MacBook Air with the M2 chip was released in July 2022.
Young did not provide further details about the new model, including whether it will be equipped with the M2 chip or the next-generation 3nm-based M3 chip, which Apple has yet to announce. Apple’s chipmaker TSMC started mass production of 3nm chips in December, but it’s unclear if the M3 chip would be ready by April.
Meanwhile, Apple has released a new security update to fix a vulnerability in the iPhone and iPad operating systems that has been exploited by hackers in the wild. The security patch is available for iPhone 8 and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad mini 5th generation and later, according to the company.
“Processing malicious web content can lead to arbitrary code execution,” said Apple. The tech giant admitted that it is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively “exploited”. iOS 16.3.1 and iPadOS 16.3.1 security updates are now available for download to fix the vulnerability.
