Artificial intelligence alone can add $500 billion to the economy: Google India
Google India said on Thursday that artificial intelligence alone can add $500 billion to the economy and help better flood forecasting and accurate disease diagnosis.
The company has committed $10 billion to expand India’s digital footprint, a senior official said.
The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted us to use all the tools at our disposal to address the challenges and opportunities that present themselves to us, Sajay Gupta, Country Director and Vice President of Google India, said during the ‘ABP Infocom – The Next Normal’ conference.
Google had recently taken a 7.73 percent stake in Reliance Industries Ltd.’s (RIL) digital subsidiary, Jio Platforms Ltd. The two companies have also announced their intention to offer “an affordable entry-level smartphone”.
Gupta said during the pandemic, data consumption increased from 8 GB to 14 GB per month. In 2014, the average consumption was only 86MB per month, he added.
The senior company official said that by 2022, UPI transactions will hit the billion per day mark, up from around one billion per month currently.
