Brands Anticipated to Introduce Rollable Smartphones in 2024
Foldable devices have gradually gained momentum in the market, which means that more brands have entered the segment to grab the attention of buyers. Many have even said that 2023 will be the year foldables hit the mainstream, and it looks like 2024 could be the year of rollable phones.
That’s right, brands like Vivo and Transsion are planning big for next year and could unveil their first smartphones with a rollable display. According to Elec’s report, these two phones are market-ready and not just prototypes, which is a big deal. The devices have screens that partially expand and rotate with the push of a button. The phones will be introduced by the end of 2024, the report adds, which means they could be available in early 2025.
It’s interesting to hear news about this technology, which seemed dead after brands like LG, Oppo, Motorola, and others introduced their own prototypes over the past few years. Samsung may have the upper hand in the foldable segment, but the company has definitely had to step up its focus on further innovation or lose out to brands like Vivo, which has Zeiss Optics for cameras in its arsenal.
Another significant part of this news is that Transsion Holdings has brands like Itel, Tecno and Infinix under its wing. Tecno has already showcased its strategy by launching foldable phones under Rs 100,000 and flip phones under Rs 50,000.
Vivo has proved its aim by launching premium X-series phones with powerful cameras and offering its own uniqueness in the market. Bringing a rolling phone is certainly another feather in their ever-growing cap.
But like all new technology, we don’t expect future rollable phones to be available in the so-called mass segment anytime soon. That being said, brands like Vivo and Tecno entering this space should accelerate the development of this segment and bring more options to buyers.
