Discover How Google Keep’s New Formatting Feature Works

Google Keep, a free note-taking tool within the Google Docs Editors suite, has recently been updated to enhance user experience. Similar to the Android app called Notes, Google Keep provides a simple interface for adding titles and text. However, this update introduces additional functionality, enabling users to conveniently utilize formatting tools to transform complex notes into easily readable documents. This feature will be available on both the web version and the mobile app.

This new feature is called text formatting, and it comes with several tools to improve the layout of any text, according to a report by 9to5Google. This feature has been teased for over a year and it’s finally here. The main advantage of this feature is that it increases the usability of the note-taking app.

Google Keep: What you get

Users can now create documents with bold text, italics, underline text and more. An interesting text formatting tool now allows you to add headings to your note, and you can add separate H1 and H2 headings to suit your needs. Both headers are separate from the header. Plus, your idea can now be split into different parts, and users don’t have to go through the annoying experience of it turning into two different notes and having to move between them over and over again. The formatting feature is currently being rolled out, and if you haven’t received it yet, wait a few days and it should arrive in your Google account soon.

This is the first update to Google Keep since the March Android update, which added pins that let you bring a note to your home screen and then edit it with a single tap.

Now let’s see how to use this feature.

Using the formatting tool in Google Keep

1. Go to Google Keep and open a new note using the + icon in the lower right corner.

2. When a new window opens, look at the bottom of the tool, which has all the different options.

3. Look for the A symbol. When you tap on it, you should see a selection of options for different use cases.

4. You can add headings, text styles and more.

5. Note that once you have selected the option, all texts you write after that will receive the mentioned formatting. You have to manually press it again to disable it.
