Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, now available to all X Premium+ subscribers in the US
In recent years, billionaire Elon Musk has been actively warning about the perils of artificial intelligence (AI). However, Musk has paradoxically launched an AI startup called xAI, which has recently created a conversational AI chatbot named Grok. This chatbot has been incorporated into X (previously known as Twitter), initially accessible to a limited number of early access users. Musk has now revealed that Grok will be accessible to all X Premium+ subscribers in the United States.
Grok available in USA
In an X message, Musk said: “Grok AI (beta) is now live for all 𝕏 Premium+ subscribers in the US. There will be many problems at first, but expect rapid improvement almost every day. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.”
Users can find Grok in the side menu on web, iOS and Android. Musk further revealed that it will be available to all English users in about a week. After the English release, Grok will be released in Japanese, as Musk said that is its next priority and that Japan is the “second largest user base”. It is expected to be published in other languages by 2024.
What is Grok?
Grok is a conversational AI chatbot developed by billionaire Elon Musk’s xAI. It was announced on November 4, when Musk revealed that “Grok is an AI modeled after Little Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so it’s meant to answer almost anything and, much harder, even suggest what questions to ask!” Grok answers the spicy questions that most other AI systems often dismiss, and it does so with humor and wit. This chatbot can hold branched conversations that users can navigate between.
In addition, Grok allows the user to retype any part of the output as if it were the AI chatbot’s original response. Unlike most AI chatbots using OpenAI’s GPT, Grok is built on xAI’s own Grok-1 LLM. According to the company, it can outperform GPT-3.5 and other similar AI models.
Being integrated into X, Grok also has real-time information about the world through the platform. Musk claims this gives the Grok “a huge advantage over other models.”
It’s important to note that Grok is still in beta, and Musk’s xAI is expected to bring more improvements and features in the future.
