Elon Musk Criticizes Anti-Defamation League for Impact on X’s US Ad Revenue
In a series of posts on Monday, owner Elon Musk stated that advertising revenue on X Corp., the social media platform previously known as Twitter, has declined by 60% primarily because of the pressure exerted by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on advertisers.
Musk said the ADL has been “trying to kill” the platform since he bought it last year, “falsely accusing” it and him of anti-Semitism. He added that legal action was one possible option if the nonprofit continued with its allegations. Musk said he was “for free speech” but opposed to “anti-Semitism of any kind.”
The ADL has said that reports of harassment and extremist content on the platform have increased since Musk’s takeover.
While X no longer needs to restore US ad revenue to previous levels to survive, it would be “nice” to see the numbers bounce back, Musk added in another message.
