Elon Musk Makes Grok AI Chatbot Code Available to Public Through Open Source Initiative
Elon Musk-led XAI has made Grok, an AI chatbot, available in open source mode for developers and researchers. The billionaire said last week that he will make Grok available to developers soon.
“We are publishing the weights and architecture of our 314 billion parameter Mixture-of-Experts model Grok-1,” the company said in a blog post. “We are publishing the basic model weights and network architecture of our large language model Grok-1. Grok-1 is a 314 billion parameter Mixture of-Experts model trained from scratch by XAI,” it added.
This is a raw baseline model checkpoint from Grok-1’s pre-training phase, which ended in October 2023. This means the model has not been fine-tuned for any specific application, such as dialogue, the company said.
The AI chatbot is now available on the open source developer platform GitHub.
Last year, XAI expanded Grok into India and 46 other countries, including Australia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Singapore. The chatbot is currently available to subscribers of X Premium+, X’s highest subscription tier. The microblogging platform has already released access to Grok AI (beta) for Premium+ subscribers in the US.
