Elon Musk’s X Blocks Searches for Taylor Swift
Elon Musk-run X has finally blocked Taylor Swift’s searches after her AI-generated explicit photos went viral on its platform last week.
The popular singer’s photos were seen by millions before X removed them. The company was criticized for being slow to act on these images. When you search for Swift, you get a message that says “Something went wrong. Please try downloading again.”
The social media platform said it was a “temporary measure” to prioritize security. Actions are being taken “very carefully as we put safety first in this matter,” the company told the BBC.
In an earlier statement, X had said it has zero tolerance for such content. “Our teams will actively remove any identified images and take appropriate action against the accounts responsible for posting them,” X said.
The White House introduced legislation last week to protect people from deep fakes created by artificial intelligence, after fake photos of Swift went viral. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called the case “alarming” and said it is one of the AI issues the Joe Biden administration has prioritized.
Microsoft chairman and CEO Satya Nadella said the apparent Swift AI fakes are “alarming and terrible.” Swift is reportedly weighing possible legal action against the website responsible for creating the deep fakes.
