Foxconn Subsidiary Proposes New iPhone Manufacturing Facility in Karnataka
According to a statement from the state government, Foxconn, the company responsible for assembling iPhones, has put forward a plan to establish an additional plant in Karnataka. The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, took place on Monday and included Foxconn Industrial Internet CEO Brand Cheng and other representatives.
Industries Minister MB Patil and IT Minister Priyank Kharge also attended the meeting. According to the proposal, Foxconn’s subsidiary Foxconn Industrial Internet (Fii) proposes to invest ₹ 8,800 crore, according to the release, this would create 14,000 jobs and the land required for the project is around 100 hectares.
“Representatives of the company will be taken to Tumakuru to inspect the vacant land at Japan Industrial Township in Tumakuru today,” it added.
In addition to the mechanical components needed for phones, the industrial investment starts manufacturing screens and outer casings. This would serve as an additional facility to the terminal assembly unit at Devanahalli. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the southern state has an ecosystem that enables industrial growth.
He said that his government would take the initiative to get human resources with the necessary skills.
Industry Minister MB Patil stated in the press release that the government will extend all cooperation regarding the proposed projects. He said the board is ready to consider other company proposals, such as setting up a semiconductor manufacturing unit, if it comes up.
