Get a glimpse of gadgets like Vixion01 and Holoconnects at CES 2024, designed to simplify everyday life.
At the Consumer Electronics Show, various gadgets are showcased to enhance efficiency in everyday tasks, including brushing teeth and using the toilet. These technological innovations aim to alleviate the burden of mundane activities.
– Supersonic toothbrush –
“Is it a toothbrush for lazy people?” asks a visitor to the Y-Brush department.
A French company has designed a “Y” shaped electric brush that is inserted into the mouth and does all the work in twenty seconds instead of two minutes.
The founder of the company came up with the idea one day while brushing his teeth.
“He thought, ‘No one lasts two minutes’.”
Already sold in Europe, the Y-Brush is now available in the US for around $100.
– Talk to my hologram –
CES visitors passing by the Holoconnects booth might be confused: is there someone in that big box?
It’s actually a hologram and a real person is standing right next to it facing the camera.
The Dutch company specializes in larger-than-life 3D holograms that are projected onto transparent screens, either life-size or miniature to hang on a table or wall.
Holograms have been a curiosity for years, especially in the entertainment industry.
But Steve Sterling, president of Holoconnects North America, believes their use is becoming more widespread.
“Right now there’s a global dispute resolution conference going on between Amsterdam and Phoenix. So we’ve put an expert from Amsterdam on the panel,” Sterling said.
Hologram displays are used in the hotel, medical and retail industries.
Thanks to ChatGPT-style AI, Holoconnects can also create avatars, including for celebrities or experts, that interact with the public without disturbing the real person.
“We have a (virtual) sommelier from the vineyard that you can ask questions and you can talk to him about how the wine is made and things like that and he will answer you,” Sterling said.
– Luxurious throne –
“This is the world’s smartest toilet,” said Ryan Grotegut, chief marketing officer for Kohler, the US-based kitchen and bathroom design specialist.
Grotegut refers to Numi 2.0.
Numi opens as if by magic when the user approaches. Once settled, the seat is heated to a predetermined temperature, and when the user is done, they can get up and continue their work without rinsing.
Numi 2.0 flushes the toilet, adjusting the amount of water according to the duration of use (3-3.80 liters), after which deodorization and disinfection are performed.
The toilet is equipped with shower heads — whose temperature, pressure and other settings can be adjusted — and a dryer.
A magnetic remote allows the user to select options, but Numi also takes verbal instructions using Alexa, Amazon’s virtual assistant, which is integrated into the toilet.
Toilets with LED lighting in customizable colors are $10,000 in black and $8,500 in white.
– Autofocus eyes –
You don’t need progressive lenses with the Vixion01, which allows you to focus on something very close and then far away almost instantly thanks to sensors that measure the distance and adapt the lenses accordingly.
“These are auto-focus glasses,” Takuya Nonaka, one of the directors of the Japanese company Vixion, told AFP.
With the help of the glasses, the user can see the fine details, such as the grain of the wood, and the battery lasts up to ten hours.
For safety reasons, it is highly recommended not to drive a car or play sports with glasses.
At this point they are only available in Japan and as a single model for $700.
