Meeting between EU Antitrust Chief and CEOs of Apple and Google
BRUSSELS: EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager said she would meet executives from Apple, Alphabet and Qualcomm to discuss regulation and competition enforcement on social media platform X on Friday.
Last week, Vestager’s communications adviser said he was speaking with executives from Apple, Alphabet, Broadcom and Nvidia in the US, focusing on European digital regulation, including the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and competition policy.
Vestager released updates on X at three meetings.
With Apple’s Tim Cook, he said he discussed, among other things, the company’s obligation to allow the distribution of applications outside of the AppStore it owns, as well as ongoing competition cases, such as Apple Music’s music streaming service.

With Sundar Pichai, head of Alphabet and Google, he discussed design for curated displays, positioning himself in relation to DMA, and also Google’s adtech antitrust case.

According to the DMA, companies with more than 45 million monthly active users and a market capitalization of 75 billion euros ($82 billion) are considered gatekeepers and must, for example, make their messaging apps work with their competitors. decide which apps to pre-install on their devices.
Vestager did not elaborate on what was discussed with Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon.
