Google Drive is simplifying file searches on its iOS app.
If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you’re a Google Drive user. Whether you use iOS or Android, Google Drive offers a convenient way to upload and access your files. However, it is not without its flaws, and you may have encountered obstacles when searching and filtering files on both iOS and Android, especially when you forget the file name.
Google is finally addressing the same thing on iOS (Android availability coming soon) by letting users filter their searches, introducing filter categories, suggesting relevant filters as you type, and introducing more search refinement options when you get to the results page.
Who is eligible for this update?
According to Google, the update is now available to Google Workspace users, individual Google Workspace subscribers, and those with a personal Google Account. However, keep in mind that you need to use the Google Drive app on an iOS device for this to work. Google states that it will “provide an update when available for Android devices.”
How does it work
Filter categories in the Google Drive app for iOS are available directly below the search bar, and include file type, owners, and last modified filters to make searching easier.
In addition, Google Drive now also suggests relevant survey filters when you write your survey. This way you can choose filters easily and save the time you would have needed to write the entire search.
However, these additions are useful for files you’ve lost in your Google Drive. Let’s say you want to find an image in Google Drive, but you can’t remember its file name. In this case, you can simply select the file type as image and select the area from the last edited section to find it easily.
