Chrome beta 111 introduces a new and improved picture-in-picture feature that now displays all web content, not just videos, in a floating window that stays on top of other windows.
The Document Picture-in-Picture API allows you to open an always-on window that can be filled with arbitrary HTML content. In addition, the PiP feature enables another use case where Pomodoro timer apps for desktop and mobile can display a floating timer on the screen, improving time management, whether at the desk or on the go.
The Document Picture-in-Picture API is only available through a limited trial period and is scheduled to end with the release of Chrome 115.
