Google Joins Forces with India to Take on Fake News!

US tech giant Google is testing various security risks, including the emergence of new forms of artificial intelligence-generated, photo-realistic, synthetic audio or video content, synthetic media, to combat deep fake videos. ‘

“While this technology has useful applications, it raises concerns when it is used for disinformation campaigns and other malicious purposes through deep forgery. The ability to spread false narratives and manipulated content can have negative consequences,” the company said in a blog post.

The technology giant will work with the Indian government to discuss security risks related to “synthetic media” at the upcoming Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) summit.

“Our collaboration with the Government of India in a multi-stakeholder dialogue is in line with our commitment to meet this challenge together and ensure a responsible approach to AI. By adopting a multi-stakeholder approach and promoting responsible AI development, we can ensure that AI’s transformative potential will continue to be a force for good in the world.”

To combat fake images, Google has implemented security measures, including SynthID. SynthID is an embedded watermarking and metadata tagging solution designed to identify images created with Google’s text-to-image generator, Image.

In addition to this, Google uses a combination of machine learning and human reviewers to quickly identify and remove content that violates the rules. This approach improves the accuracy of Google’s content monitoring systems and ensures a more effective response to misleading or harmful visual content.

Google is donating $1 million to the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras to establish a pioneering multidisciplinary Center for Responsible Artificial Intelligence.

This initiative aims to bring together researchers, industry experts, developers, community members, policy makers and others to collaboratively ensure the responsible development and localization of AI in the Indian context.

For YouTube, Google is introducing notification requirements for content creators who use modified or AI-generated content. Content producers should notify users by adding tags to the description panel and video player.

The platform is also developing a “privacy request process” to allow users to remove content that uses artificial intelligence to mimic a human face or voice.
