Google will remove inactive accounts from Gmail, Drive and YouTube starting in December
Alphabet Inc’s Google said on Tuesday it will delete accounts that have been inactive for two years starting in December to prevent security threats, including hackers.
The company said that if a Google Account has not been used or logged in for at least two years, it may remove the account and content from Google Workspace, which includes Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet and Calendar, as well as YouTube and Google. Pictures.
The policy change only applies to personal Google Accounts, not accounts for organizations such as schools or businesses.
In 2020, Google had said it would delete content stored on an inactive account, but not the account itself.
Starting Tuesday, Google will send multiple notifications to inactive accounts’ account email address and recovery mail before deletion.
Last week, Elon Musk said Twitter would remove accounts that had been inactive for several years and archive them, saying the move was “important to free up abandoned handles.”
