iOS 17 Offers Solution to Combat Eye Strain
Apple, the tech giant from the United States, has recently unveiled iOS 17, which includes a range of captivating features and updates. Among these features, the Screen Distance feature stands out as particularly intriguing. This feature is designed to notify users when they hold their iPhone too close to their eyes for an extended period.
The opt-in feature is designed to lower children’s risk of myopia by promoting healthy viewing habits and may help reduce eye strain overall, MacRumors reports. Screen Distance can be enabled in the Settings app under Screen Time > Screen Distance and is available on all iPhone models with Face ID.
The feature uses the same TrueDepth camera that uses Face ID to measure the distance between the screen and your eyes, and a full-screen alert prompts users to move their device further away when it’s held more than 12 inches from their eyes. .
Once enabled, users will receive a warning message saying “iPhone is too close” if necessary. When the iPhone is moved to a safe distance, a check mark will appear on the screen, and users can tap the “Continue” button to continue.
iOS 17 will be released later this year and is currently available as a beta version for users with an Apple developer account. Screen Distance compatible devices are iPhone XS and later. The feature can be enabled or disabled at any time.
With the latest iOS 17, the iPhone maker has also brought a significant update to the App Store app that notifies users of the estimated duration of app downloads when they start. When you tap the “Apply” button in the app list in the iOS 17 App Store and the circular charging symbol appears, the remaining time for charging will be displayed in minutes and seconds.
