iOS 17.1 Resolves iPhone 15 Screen Image Retention Issue
Apple is ready to release its iOS 17.1 update for supported iPhones. This is apparently the first major update since iOS 17 was released last month for all iPhones, including iPhones released in 2018 and later.
However, in addition to the usual optimizations, Apple is also said to be addressing the alleged screen image persistence problem associated with the iPhone 15 models, as MacRumors says.
This comes after several iPhone 15 series users reportedly reported a situation resembling OLED burn-in. In this issue, the iPhone 15 models suggest a false alarm to the user due to the error – essentially a software problem that accidentally emulates the OLED burn-in problem. But since software bugs are an iOS issue, all users who experience burn-in should now feel relieved as iOS 17.1 aims to address this issue.
iOS 17.1 has reportedly already been rolled out as a Release Candidate (RC), so an official public release shouldn’t be too far for the masses.
Thus, the likelihood of iPhones less than a month old burning in is highly unlikely, as these newer panels are rated to last the test of time.
MacRumors further notes that Apple is also addressing other errors, such as significant resets of location privacy settings when the Apple Watch is moved and paired for the first time. Some users also reported that customized ringtones were not reflected even after purchase.
