iPad Pro To Get OLED Displays In 2024: Apple To Start Manufacturing!

Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is said to be gearing up to release the next generation of iPads with OLED screens in 2024. Now, a new report has revealed that the production of OLED screens designed for the upcoming iPad Pro is planned. starts in February 2024.

According to a report by the Korea Herald, LG Display will begin OLED production of the new iPad Pro as early as February next year in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, which is about three months earlier than expected.

Sources close to the Korea Herald claimed that the screens are expected to be three times the size of those used in iPhones, which could lead to higher prices for customers.

In addition to OLED display technology, the next-generation iPad Pro models are expected to have slightly larger screens, an M3 chip, and a revamped Magic Keyboard accessory, MacRumors reports. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects the new ‌iPad Pro‌ models to launch in the second quarter of 2024, which runs from April to June. This timeline is pretty much in line with the latest rumor from the Korea Herald.

According to reports, Apple also plans to source about 10 million OLED panels for the iPad in 2024. LG is expected to supply about 60 percent of those panels, while Samsung will supply the rest, focusing mainly on the 11-inch model.

This production is considered crucial for LG Displays’ financial recovery next year. Currently, LG and Samsung are finalizing pricing information with Apple.

The latest 11-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ has an LCD screen, but the 12.9-inch model has a mini-LED backlight for a brighter image and better contrast ratio. OLED technology, which Apple plans to introduce, will eliminate the need for a backlight. This brings benefits such as a higher contrast ratio with deeper blacks, lower power consumption and more vibrant graphics.

“Apple is likely to use ultra-thin hybrid OLED displays that combine flexible and rigid materials. This could make the next iPad Pro models slightly thinner,” MacRumors said.
