Learn how to use OpenAI’s new Read Aloud feature on ChatGPT for both smartphones and web platforms
Since its launch in 2022, OpenAI’s AI chatbot ChatGPT has become increasingly popular. Following its release, tech companies globally have begun developing their own AI chatbots. As ChatGPT’s popularity grows, it has been enhanced with new features to enhance its responses and user interaction. OpenAI has recently introduced a new Read Aloud feature for ChatGPT, enabling the chatbot to verbally communicate its responses to users. This allows users to listen to responses instead of reading them. Learn more about ChatGPT’s Read Aloud feature.
ChatGPT’s Read Aloud feature
OpenAI shared a post on X announcing ChatGPT’s new Read Aloud feature. Users can access this feature online as well as on their smartphones. The message said: “ChatGPT can now read replies to you. On iOS or Android, press and hold a message, then tap ‘Read Aloud’. We’re also live online – click the ‘Read Aloud’ button below the message.” The post also includes a video demonstration of how the new ChatGPT feature works.
The Read Aloud feature includes a new speaker icon that users can tap to have ChatGPT read generated responses. Once the feature is enabled on your devices, you will notice a new settings menu option where you can also change the sounds according to your preference. Tom’s Guide reports that there are five ChatGPT voices: Jupiter, Breeze, Ember, Cove, and Sky. These voices include both male and female voices. This new ChatGPT feature gives users a hands-free experience and works for people who find it easier to listen than read. The Read Aloud feature can be used in a variety of ways, such as storytelling, conversations, and more.
Using the ChatGPT Read Aloud feature on mobile and online
After activation, the Read Aloud feature is automatically enabled by default, so you don’t need to enable the feature separately.
In order for ChatGPT to read the answers on a mobile device, all you have to do is long press the text and a pop-up menu will appear in front of the screen. Just select “Read Aloud”. In the ChatGPT mobile app, users can also pause, fast forward or rewind a reply.
In the online version of ChatGPT, all you have to do is tap the “Read Aloud” icon, which is placed immediately below the generated text. Not so online, you can pause or replay the speech.
