Meta’s AI assistant will be available on Quest headsets in the US and Canada.

Meta’s AI-powered assistant has been available on Ray-Ban smart glasses for a while now, but it will finally be introduced to Quest headsets next month. The assistant will remain in experimental mode and will only be accessible to users in the US and Canada. Meta announced this update along with the Llama 3.1 and new Meta AI capabilities.

Users who get the assistant in August can test its hands-free controls. The company said Meta AI will replace the current technology used in Voice Commands on Quest, so it will control the headset whenever people use their voice to navigate and answer their questions if they ask for information. They can ask the assistant for restaurant recommendations for an upcoming trip, for example, or ask the assistant about the weather that day and clothing suggestions.

They can also use the “Meta AI with Vision” feature, which allows them to ask the assistant for information about what they see when they use Passthrough in a Quest. Passthrough allows users to see their surroundings through the video feed while watching or doing something else with their headphones. For example, a user can ask an assistant to look at what’s inside the fridge and suggest what to cook, or ask for tips on what kind of top would go with a skirt while watching a YouTube video. .
