Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella finds the potential impact of AI on science most intriguing at WEF 2024.
On Tuesday, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella expressed that while Artificial Intelligence (AI) has provided science with new tools, the most intriguing aspect to anticipate is its potential to expedite scientific progress.
He also dismissed concerns that AI cannot be controlled or regulated.
“There is nothing that humanity can’t control or manage for better use, and this is one of the easiest and simplest technologies. It needs to be properly controlled and I’m sure that will happen,” Nadella said.
He also said that the last thing the world needs is technology that creates division, and “we have to be vigilant about that.”
Speaking at the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2024, the Microsoft chairman and CEO said that artificial intelligence (AI) has grown a lot recently with ChatGPT and many other platforms.
“The first time I became a believer was when I saw GitHub Copilot, which really converted me,” he said.
“But what AI will do for science is probably the most interesting thing to me,” he said during a conversation with WEF founder and CEO Klaus Schwab.
“What it can do for energy transition, what it can do for cancer detection, what it can do for molecular behavior. So far we’ve seen that it’s brought new tools to science, but we don’t yet see how it can accelerate science,” Nadella said.
On the technology front, Microsoft’s top executive said he has always paid attention to three things, quantum, artificial intelligence and mixed reality, or embodied artificial intelligence, or what he calls humanoid robots.
“Can we give birth to a new quantum revolution is what I want to see,” he said.
He also said that the world will not see any economic growth if adjusted for inflation, but AI can trigger economic growth just like it did when computers came into the picture.
