Microsoft says over 1 million people sign up for Bing with ChatGPT in 48 hours

US tech giant Microsoft has announced that over a million people signed up to a waiting list to try out the new Bing Search with ChatGPT functionality in just 48 hours.

Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s vice president and head of consumer marketing, took to the microblogging site on Twitter and wrote: “We’re humbled and energized by the number of people who want to test the new AI-powered Bing! In 48 hours, over a million people have joined the waiting list for our preview.

Last week, the company announced a new version of Bing with a more advanced version of OpenAI’s GPT 3.5 language model. Although the new Bing is only available to select users for now, it has already generated a lot of interest, with one million people signing up on a waiting list to try it out in just 48 hours.

Mehdi and Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella announced the new Bing last week. Microsoft introduced a new Bing based on “next-generation” ChatGPT artificial intelligence (AI) and also updated its Edge browser with new AI features.

The AI-powered Bing search engine and Edge browser are now available for preview on Bing.com, “to deliver better search, more complete answers, a new chat experience and the ability to create content,” the tech giant said.

According to the company, these tools act as “an artificial intelligence co-pilot for the web.” “Artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing every category of software, starting with the biggest category of all — search,” Nadella said.

With the new Bing, users get an improved version of the standard search experience. The updated search engine has the next-generation OpenAI big language model, which is more powerful than ChatGPT.

It offers more relevant results for common queries like sports scores, stock quotes and weather, along with a new sidebar that displays more detailed information if users need it.

Microsoft also announced that it has updated the Edge browser with new artificial intelligence features and a new look.
