Mysterious Interruption for Bluesky Following Elon Musk’s Announcement of Removal of Block Feature on X
Yesterday, Elon Musk, the owner of X (previously known as Twitter), caused controversy when he announced on his Twitter account that the platform would be removing the block feature. This decision received widespread criticism, with numerous individuals expressing their dissatisfaction and urging Musk to reconsider. Coincidentally, during this period, X’s competitor, Bluesky, experienced technical difficulties, resulting in an outage and significantly longer server load times. Speculation has arisen, suggesting a potential connection between these two events.
According to a TechCrunch report, Bluesky’s outage began immediately after Musk’s tweet, which may have been caused by a flood of users leaving X. This also has priority. The last time Bluesky suffered an outage, X reported restrictions on viewing messages because AI companies were scrapping their data to train their base models.

Some users reported that messages and images loaded slowly, and they saw random error messages. In addition to this, the website’s status page also indicated that it was suffering from an issue that affected the platform’s performance, according to a TechCrunch report.
The report also mentioned that “data from a source that leverages the Bluesky API to track new user registrations shows that the decentralized social media platform has seen 5,616 new registrations in the last 24 hours, compared to 536 in the previous 24 hours.” This definitely points to the fact that some of these incoming users may be X users who are unhappy with the recent announcement.
After 24 hours, Bluesky’s status page indicated that the main issue has been resolved, but some users may face challenges in uploading some images and messages for some time.
Yesterday, Musk responded to a tweet asking if there was ever a reason to block someone from muting him when he said: “Block will be removed as a ‘feature’, except for DMs.” He also added, “It doesn’t make any sense.” Interestingly, Musk has long criticized the blocking feature as well as other basic features of social media platforms.
