New patent suggests Meta may be taking inspiration from Apple for upcoming Vision Pro headset
What feature of Apple Vision Pro is “exciting” Meta
According to a report from PatentlyApple, Meta has filed a new patent designed to mimic the EyeSight feature of the Apple Vision Pro. The Meta Platforms patent, formally titled “Embedded Sensors in an Immersive Reality Headset to Enable Social Presence,” reveals that the company may be planning a redesign of its Quest headset, or it may be planning an entirely new headset design to support this feature. Apple’s Eyesight technology, Meta notes that some of the facial interface sensors may include health sensors.
What makes Apple’s EyeSight feature special
Apple Vision Pro’s EyeSight feature is an exceptional innovation that helps users stay connected to those around them. When a person approaches someone wearing an Apple headset, Vision Pro feels transparent, allowing the user to see them while also showing the user’s eyes. When the user is immersed in the environment or using the application, EyeSight gives visual cues to others about what the user is focused on.
While the feature may not seem like a big deal, it changes the way a person interacts with or communicates with the person using the Apple Vision Pro. The patent filed by Meta doesn’t reveal much about the company’s plans for an upcoming AR/VR headset, but it can certainly be seen as an endorsement of the Apple Vision Pro.
